Recommendation for case fans - no RGB ?

$

0
Hello,

ordered a Phanteks Enthoo 791 (aka Enthoo Lux 2).
It can fit 120 mm and 140mm case fans.

Would like to get PWM controlled case fans for it.

Can you recommend reliable products?
Main goal: silent and known for long term stablility of the bearing.
No RGB needed.

Not required for radiators. For those i got high static pressure fans already.

Thanks for your help.

The burn in OLED has me too worried to purchase one. However, SAMSUNG TV's do not suffer from the same issue so I am wondering if anyone is using a SAMSUNG and what are their thoughts?

BF5 BSOD

Hi, guys

I just installed BF5 and I keep getting BSODs whenever I try to start the game. I can't get past the screen with the guy and the orange background.

My system:
Windows 10
4770K
8gb 2400
1060

I installed the latest drivers for the 1060. And disabled page filing (had it on before and crashed as well). Anything I can do? thank you so much

New build single or dual channel memory?

$

I have just put together a new 9700k build with a Gigabyte Aorus ELite mobo, 2 x 8 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200mhz DDR4 and a most massive noctua nh-d15 chromax black cooler inside a Corsair 450D case.
A bit of a conundrum however due to the cooler, when I put both fans on it it covers exactly 2 of the memory slots and my RAM sticks can only go in the B1 and B2 locations (can't see how this noctua design isn't affecting 90% of the boards out there)
As soon as I booted it up the bios said I should use A1 and B1 for a proper dual channel setup or performance is lost.

The way I see it there are three options:

1. Remove the first fan and leave the middle one only on the cpu cooler and then I can use A1/B1 slots but also lose on cooling a little (I also have a Noctua NF-P12 Redux exhaust fan at the rear of the case and 2 x Noctua nf-p14s-redux intake fans at the front)
2. Replace my 2 x 8GB sticks with just one 16GB stick and run single channel vs dual, this time possibly losing on performance (if gaming is not affected then I don't really care)
3. Do nothing and leave the 2 x 8GB sticks in single channel mode as they currently are.

What do you guys think?

Is distribution plate bad for watercooling?

As title.
I want to buy a Lian Li PC O11 Dynamic with a top rad and a bottom one.

I want to use a distribution plate.
Is it difficult with distro plate to fullfill the top rad? Will I be able to remove air from the top rad even using a distro plate as tank?

Thanks

[ars] Android "Strandhogg" Vulnerability being Exploited

Quote:

A vulnerability in millions of fully patched Android phones is being actively exploited by malware that's designed to drain the bank accounts of infected users, researchers said on Monday.

The vulnerability allows malicious apps to masquerade as legitimate apps that targets have already installed and come to trust, researchers from security firm Promon reported in a post. Running under the guise of trusted apps already installed, the malicious apps can then request permissions to carry out sensitive tasks, such as recording audio or video, taking photos, reading text messages or phishing login credentials. Targets who click yes to the request are then compromised.

They got me. I have a banking app on my phone, and I got an email about an incorrect password even though I never signed on. Might be a good idea to reset all of your phones and really comb through what app permissions you're allowing.

Cache frequency max 4.6ghz?

Hoho!

Just a quick one.
On my asus z390 strix gaming when i set cache frequency to over 4.6ghz (4.7 and more).
It will still be at 4.6ghz.
I can fix this by set mimimum and maximum to the same (min 4.7ghz and max 4.7ghz) will be 4.7ghz in windows.
but the setback woth set the minimum to the same as max is that the adoptive vcore will be at max vcore all the time in windows.

Someone know why 4.6ghz is the limit?

2 EPS connectors on X570 motherboard and how to power them

I build a system with MEG X570 UNIFY motherboard. Other system components:
Ryzen 7 3800x CPU
1 x Asus ROG Strix RTX 2070 Super OC GPU ((8+8)-pin connector)
2 x 16GB DDR4-3200 RAM
2 x M.2 SSD
1 x WD Black HDD
4 x 120mm Corsair ML PRO LED case fans
Corsair H110i AIO
Corsair RM650i 650W PSU
I intend to overclock the GPU, RAM (at least XMP profile) and possibly CPU.

My motherboard has (8+8)-pin EPS connectors. According to this video at 04:21 ( ), the second one feeds PCI-E slots. If it is, I was wondering if it will have any effect on my single GPU and whether it’s necessary to plug that second connector at all. However, MSI’s support asserts that both connectors are for CPU.

I also own CableMod C-Series ModMesh Cable Kit for Corsair RMi / RMx / RM (https://cablemod.com/product/cablemo...le-kit-carbon/) that has two (4+4)-pin EPS cables because the kit is meant for PSU of any wattage from RMi/RMx line. This cable kit is a direct replacement for stock cables and all appropriate cables have capacitors on them.

My Corsair RM650i multi-rail PSU has 3 connectors on modular panel designated as 6+2 PCI-E & 4+4 CPU. Can any of them be used for connecting to EPS on motherboard or PCI-E on graphics card interchangeably? If yes, I was wondering if I can run just one CableMod ((6+2)+(6+2))-pin PCI-E cable to my graphics card and two CableMod (4+4)-pin EPS cables to (8+8)-pin EPS connectors on the motherboard? Will my graphics card have adequate power especially when overclocking from one PCI-E connector on modular panel and one cable? Will PSU be able to give adequate power to two 8-pin EPS connectors on the motherboard from two connectors on modular panel using two EPS cables? In this suggested configuration, should I keep PSU working in multi-rail mode or switch to a single-rail?

Thank you in advance!

Triple Monitor Advice

$

I'm looking to upgrade to a triple monitor setup. However I will only game across all 3 games while sim racing. I will play some other games on the middle monitor only. I was thinking of going with a 27" 1440p 144hz monitor for the middle monitor so I can play games at 144hz. My dilemma is what to do with the side monitors.

Option 1: Buy 3 of the 1440p 144hz. This would look good and easy to set up with all monitors being the same but I can't run at 144hz on all 3 monitors at the same time so it also seems like a waste.

Option 2: Buy 1440p 75/60hz monitors for the sides. Drop the middle one down to 75/60 when sim racing since otherwise I'm just using these 2 side monitors for youtube and general internet activities. I don't know how well these will match up with the middle one though since they will be different monitors. I'd like them to match up nicely so I'm not distracted by the bezels while racing.

Option 3: Go with 3 24" 1080p 144hz monitors. A lot cheaper than option 1 but smaller screens and only 1080p.

I've never used a 1440p monitor or a 144hz monitor before. So I'm not really sure how much better a 1440p will look compared to 1080p. I did look at best buy and liked the size of the 27's more than the 24's.

I've also read that IPS is best for triple monitors due to TN's having bad viewing angles. Does anyone have any experience with triple monitors and which panels you used? I have a 24" 1080p TN now and I don't really notice any viewing angle trouble but I also always am looking at it straight on. When I setup my triples I will have the sides angled in so I won't be looking at them on too great of an angle.

I was thinking of buying 2 monitors from Amazon. Maybe the LG 83b or whatever it is and then maybe a cheaper 1440p 144hz and seeing what differences I can see between them. If there isn't too much difference I'd probably get 3 of the cheaper ones.

Thanks for the help.

Need some clarity on Clock Boost

My work laptop has a Intel Core i5-8365U CPU which is a 4 core 8 logical, with a base clock of 1.60GHz and a boost of up to 4.1GHz on 1 core.

From my understanding you cant have 3 cores running at 1.6 and 1 running at 4.1. With only 1 core boost, you can have 1 core at up to 4.1GHz or 4 cores at 1.6GHz and no in-between right?

dead cmos battery cause voltage instability?

will a dead/ failing cmos potentially cause voltage instabilities?

my cmos battery will go dead (bios reset) if i leave my pc off for longer than 30-20 minutes. (its the same one since i got it about 6-7 years ago)
seeing as my pc is on 24/7 it doesnt really effect me that often with the usual bios reset.

however....sometimes i get random crashes/ memory errors etc for seemingly no reason.

is it possible the battery chargring circuit on the mobo is constantly turning on and off which sometimes causes weird voltage fluctuation which are effecting other parts of the pc?

i would just replace the cmos battery but i have a z77 sabertooth with stupid thermal armour that needs to be removed to do so. which is almost and entire pc dissasemble :(
i will go through the hassle if its potentially a source of problems but a quick google of similar cmos battery problems says no, so i thought id double check on here.

anyone got a take on this?

thanks in advance

65" Q70R vs Lg 55" OLED

$

So i recently just bought the Q70r for 1200 without really doing much research besides the fact that I needed q70R or higher. But now i realized the OLED is way better than QLED but a lot more expensive. So would you guys recommend me to stick with the 65" 70r, or should i drop it to a 55" OLED, either the b9 or c9. Is dropping the screen size worth the picture quality? If I go with OLED i can not stomach the price of the 65" so 55" is the highest I can go. I will mainly use this tv for tv shows, movies, light gaming on my ps4 thats not a pro.

Thanks in advance

Need cheaper headset that is comparable to PC 350's in performance

$

Hi, I'm on a tighter budget than in the past. My Sennheiser PC 350's are breaking down (mic arm broke) and I need a replacement for under 70$ if possible. I don't want to lose sound quality and I'm wondering if anyone knows a good, inexpensive, pair of gaming headphones with a mic. I also don't want it to use a usb connection. I would prefer a 3.5mm jack. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Overclocking advice for a complete newbie?

In short;

Ryzen 5 2600X
B450 Tomahawk MAX
with 2x 8GB HyperX Predator 3200 MHz CL16
on a 600W SilentiumPC Vero L2 PSU
SilentiumPC Fera 3 cooler

I want the CPU to go up 4,2 GHz on all cores as well as pairing RAM OC with it for a demanding on this behalf title to be played.

Thus, as I appear to be a total newbie and I DO NOT want to break anything in my new rig just because of my incompetence, I turn to you with a question;
in terms of CPU Clock (well 4,2 GHz preferably), CPU Voltage (voltages are what bothers me the most), RAM clock and RAM voltage, where do I go? What's the safe level? What would be the stable and safe level on this combination? I saw people take my RAMs up to 3500 MHz, while 3600 MHz was an unstable setting, but as I said, I am too much of a newbie to it, but still in need of that extra CPU performance really badly.

I appreciate any tips and help, anything that could fulfill my lack of knowledge, as it's one thing being told to do X and Y by someone with unknown specs on YouTube, and another being taught something regarding my particular specs.

weird overclocking results 1660ti

Hey guys i got my hands on 1660ti gigabyte gaming oc version and i have rather weird clock issues.

During 3dmark my gpu starts off with 2100mhz and 6651 on memory but after few seconds it down clocks itself to 2085 and then again downlocks itself to 2070.

From what i could see during benchmark, above 78~% of gpu usage it will stay on 2070 but any time below that usage it bumps up to 2085mhz again.

My power slider and temp slider is at max, during the benchmark max temp it reached was 68c at 65% fan speed, so it's far from thermal throttling.

My core clock is right now at +125 and memory clock is at +650, power is at 149% and thermal limit at 89c

This is my first time overclocking the gpu.

Then I did some research in google and I found a company called onebound technology. They provide a taobao agent system which can help customer do this kind of business. Please give me some suggestions.

For me they are both around the same here is my system specs and some testing results at Stock and just XMP

2700X @ Stock with a Dark Rock Pro 4

4x8GB G Skill Flare X F4-3200C14-8GFX @ 14-14-14-34-74 (should be 48 but this IMC dont handle the tRC very well without extra voltage so i left that one on a fix 74) with this BIOS`s

X470 Prime Pro ASUS

with 1004B: CB R20: 3956 Points

with 1003B: CB R20: 3925 Points

I ll be switching between this 2 Bios to do more testing and get out from stock to see the maximun oc on both.. meanwhile lets share that experience between us

Creative BT-W2 doesn't pair with Sennheiser BTNC 4.50

Title basically. Got this little creative bluetooth aptx transceiver dongle.. works with M50xBT but refuses to pair with my new sennheiser hd 4.50s. When I put them both in pairing mode the BT-W2 rapidly disappears/reappears under windows devices like it's constantly being replugged.
Has anyone got any inkling at all of what could be causing it, any known windows issues idk i spent an hour getting the on/off again treatment from creative to be told at the end "it sounds like a compatibility issue". Im extremely frustrated and don't know where to go from here.
If no one has a fix, im also interested in hearing about alternate devices that might work with the headphones.

Does APTX even matter or should I just use my motherboards inbuilt BT 5.0

Hi,

Just thought I'd come here to show a performance number that took me by surprise - Intel i5 8500 6C/6T Coffee Lake CPU - On an Asus TUF H310 Gaming Plus motherboard - No OC'ing of any kind (not possible)_XMP was permitted by the motherboard - Wow is all that can be said - Chip in if you agree !!! - (or not) !!!
