Notice: You are now required to sign up each month, be sure to sign up for this month's event and each event going forward

What is the Foldathon?

Every month we hold a Foldathon, or FAT for short. The FAT is a mad dash over a 2 day period where we fold on as much hardware as we can get our grubby fingers on and try to amass the most points possible. It is winner takes all. Okay, that's not true, but if you're lucky you might win something, probably not, but you will have made a honorable contribution to the science behind Folding@Home. What is that science you're probably asking, have a gander over here to learn more. All units crunched for team 37726 count, even if you can only manage to complete one unit, but if you're already a folder, there's no excuse for not folding for the full 48 hours

How it works:

Sign-up and run Folding@home for Overclock.net (team number: 37726) during the specified times. Those who Fold will be entered into a drawing to win the prizes listed below. If you still don't know what Folding@home is or need some help getting started, feel free to post here, make a thread in the Overclock.net Folding@Home Team forum or check this guide: FAHControl v7 for both CPU and GPU

----> SIGN UP HERE <----

You can verify whether or not you're signed up by looking for your name here in the member list.

If you don't submit any points during a Foldathon, you will be removed from the list, this is to push for active participation in the event.

You are required to re-sign up each month for the prize option, this is to hopefully push a little more active participation in the event as well and prevent prizes going to people who aren't active in the community.

When:

December 2019 Foldathon - Monday 16th - Wednesday 18th - 1200 ET/1600 UTC

----> Countdown to Start <----

Reminders:

If you would like to be put on a reminder list for all future Foldathons, please join this group: Foldathon Participants

If you would like to be notified via Private Message, please send a private message Simmons572 to be added to the notification group.

Prize Winners:

- x5 OCN Premium Accounts - 1 Year Subscription

- x3 $25 Paypal Prize

- x1 $50 Paypal Prize

If you wish to donate a prize, shoot @lanofsong ,@Simmons572 or @axipher a PM

Prizes will be drawn on or around the following Monday after the event.
After accepting a prize in any given monthly folding event, members will sit out two events before becoming eligible for prizes again. This is to hopefully spread the kindly donated items amongst the OCN folding community more fairly.

least maintenance possible

Hello guys,

I am building a computing rig featuring AMD 3960x, PNY P2200 and ASUS Prime TRX40-PRO. This rig will do 24/7 simulations, so I am looking for a costom loop with high performance, stability and least maintenance. After reading many reviews, I choose WaterCool Heatkiller IV, EK EX360 with Noctua Industrial 3000, EK ZMT and a Fractal Meshify S2, but when it comes down to pump, reservoir and coolant I am absolutely clueless.

There is no need for color or bling, just pure performance and availability in germany. I would be very happy for every advise you can provide to get this system as maintenancefree as possible.

Best regards,

Dominic

Worth upgrading Ryzen 5 1600x?

$

I don't know how much of a performance boost I'd get for upgrading this CPU for gaming purposes, or if it's even worth it right now. It's paired with a 1080ti, and I run games at 1440p resolution.

How much better are the new Ryzen chips, and would I see any benefit if it's paired with a 1080ti?

1080ti is still a beast for 1440p, and I can probably get by for another year without upgrading it.

Money isn't really a problem, but I don't like spending it on PC parts without very noticeable gains.

CPU Overclocking

Long time since I've posted.

Looking to really push my 8700k and DDR4 further then what I already have.

https://valid.x86.fr/5kulwt

8700k is at an all-core of 5.2GHz with 1.38v set statically and LLC set to extreme as the Z370 Gaming 7 droops a lot otherwise. The CPU and board are on water under a Monoblock. I'd like to aim for 5.3GHz on two cores and keep the 5.2 on all cores, cooling isn't an issue at all.

DDR4 is Trident Z RGB 3000MHz 16-18-18-38 2T, 526 tRFC stock
Currently at 3400MHz 16-17-17-34 1T, 476 tRFC

As you can see I've been very lucky with the RAM, I'd like to do 3600MHz but I'm having issues with getting this to post.
I've got
System Agent set to 1.050v
VCCIO set to 1.1v

Will pushing those more help with more speed/better RAM clocks and what is the maximum that I can do? Keeping in mind the board is on water

Old videocard died (gtx650) It was hooked up with dvi-d which gave me 144hz.
I wanted a good direct upgrade, so I ordered the gtx 1650 super.
However this card does not have dvi,d.

My monitor seems to be too old, to support hdmi 2.0 So I will not get 144hz over pure hdmi.
What are my options? Will any dvi-d to hdmi work?
Found thid one here https://www.av-cables.dk/dvi-til-hdm...ine-0-5-m.html

Is it possible to connect the dvi-d end to the monitor and then the hdmi end to videocard, and get 144hz this way?

Choosing the right RAM for my build

Hey guys, i'm building a new machine with i9-9900K, Z390 Aorus Master and RTX 2080 Super.
My problem is choosing the right RAM, here is QVL list of my mobo: -link-

I want 32 GB and willing to spend 300$ for that 32 GB (4x8GB preferable because of T-topology of my mobo).
I'm struggling to figure out which RAM to go with, some 3600 MHz with CL16 picked my interest but the "chipset" block is empty on the list, so not sure whether i should worry about that.

Flashed bios fail

$

So I have flashed dozens of ATI/AMD cards without any issue. This is my first Nvidia and of course was a huge fail.

I have a MSI 980 ti Armor 2x in my file/plex server. The fans don't turn off nor go under 32%. I wanted to flash a EVGA ACX 2.0 or MSI Gaming that had the fan off. So I used the nvflash64 -6 name.rom and the computer instantly black screened (I didn't disable the nvidia display driver as I didn't know was supposed to until later)

So I let the PC "flash" for 10 minutes and nothing happened. So I took the 980ti out and put into my main PC with my 1070ti. It would either fail to load windows or black/blue screen with the 980ti installed as secondary.

So how do I fix this failed flash. Luckily I saved the stock rom and was able to get it off my server and have a bootable USB and nvflash on it. I could try with my 1070ti as primary and flash in dos with the bootable usb?

I also have a 1700x + RX480 may try to see if can flash from windows there?

100% disk usage

Been Having issues with my Girlfriends pc. First the first two sata ports appear to have died on the asrock board I put in. Then upon installing a new Kodak ssd and windows ten os, It immediately started running like garbage. Problem? 100% disk usage with nothing running. Been happening to many computers in my house as of late But I cant fix this one to save my life.

Things Ive tried so far:
Fix 1: Fixing the StorAHCI.sys Drivers to msi disabled
Fix 2: Changed Energy Options from Balanced to High Performance
Fix 3: Disabled Windows Search
Fix 4: Disabled SuperFetch Service/aka sysmain
Fix 5: Disabled Antivirus Software/aka windows defender
Fix 6: Reset Virtual Memory and reset to ram limits
Fix 7: Disk check (Was fine.. as I figured, Its brand new)
Fix 8: Removed All Windows Temporary Files

Im so stumped and this is so aggravating. Hopefully this is in the correct section and someone has some ideas.

Does extreme enthusiasts will buy 3990WX?

$

As title.
Many on this forum was buying hardware just for the sake of having the best hardware possible.
Most of those enthusiasts set their own price limit cap by buying the best in the mainstream segment and the best in the hedt segment.

Now that the mainstream socket uses a 900 USD CPU and the
hedt socket will use a 4 grand CPU, are those enthusiasts willing to spend this money to get the best?

Broken USB 3.0 Pin.

Unfortunately one of my motherboards USB 3.0 plug pins has broken. It appears the cases USB 3.0 plug missed two of the pins when it was seated and bent the pins out further. When I straitened one it broke. I'm just wondering if anyone knows exactly what this broken pin does. Have had some varied responses as to what it does so that doesn't really give me piece of mind. I believe it is pin 10, maybe ID pin? The motherboard is a Maximus XI Hero and the manual says that pin is a ground pin. If I can be more certain as to what that pin does I can determine whether it's worth the hassle of seeing whether the board can be replaced. Thanks.

Non compatibile freesync monitor with nvidia gpu?

Hey i just found this nice Acer Nitro VG240YUbmiipx for stupid low price and i'd love to have it it's freesync 75hz 1440p ips monitor but my problem is that im using gtx 1660ti and i couldn't find it on officially supported lists so my question is:

1. what kind of issues can i expect?
2. will it run on said 75hz?
3. does freesync/gsync matter all that much at 75hz?

shop page for the monitor:

SSD vs HDD w/Optane

$

Can someone explain why I should get a 4TB SSD vs a considerably cheaper and more durable 4TB HDD with Intel Optane memory card? It seems like that would save a lot of money for a gaming rig. I've had 4 SSDs go out in the last 5 years and I still have all my HDDs (some almost 20 years old) that are still kicking. I really don't want to shell out another $500 for a good 4TB SSD.

Work From Home/Gaming Laptop $800 Alex

This would be moderately used for gaming (older games including Empire Total War, Swat, and Joint Operations). I really don’t play videos games much. I might also use it for dungeons and dragons. But this would be my work from home rig. I would need Microsoft office and Skype. Easy enough i am sure.

Can anyone recommend specific brands of laptops that could play those games fine? I do need a laptop ICE and I need to leave my home and work from a different location. I’m not looking for too much of a headache for setup and tweaking. I know how to do some basic stuff on my own, but I’d like to just turn it on and download steam and be done. $800 is my budget max. I don’t want to go over that and it isn’t a big deal if it cannot run the next top of the line stuff. Like I said...I only play a few specific games anyway. :)

Please let me know if you need anything else from me to help with recommendations.

Did i do something wrong with settings or 4dimm are just hot

I've been passing hci 2000% without problems with these settings... until i've found out that if i load a taxing game (like 8k resolution on ac odyssey LOL) and run HCI together the extra gpu heat will put ram into 60s and lose stability.
No workload that i know will both stress gpu and ram this hard, when i play ram are usually 52c max and i know for sure that i am stable up to 58c (where i get with HCI only) but want to be really rock solid so...
Is there something in my settings that cause excessive heat or it's just the thing with passively cooled ram?

Copying to USB in Printer

Hi so I bought a new printer(see attachment). I contacted support and I'm post here the email to see if I'm just too stupid or if I brought a ****ty printer.

Here is the email I gave:

"Hello; I'm just sending an email about copying to USB. I've attached a picture of a WorkForce WF-7720. I have a question does this printer have a FUNCTION to COPY to USB?

Everytime we try to copy it only allows us to make copies on paper, but it doesn't apply us to copy to the USB how do we do that?

If your can help us with this question that would be great or if you could direct us to another department?"

So that email I gave it should be that hard to copy to usb.

Can someone confirm if this printer does allow for copying to usb thanks.

I just wanna get confirmation thanks.

[WTB] 450w or better modular/semi modular PSU / 250-500gb SSD

Looking for a power supply for a budget build I am putting together for my kids. Don't need anything super high power output. Would definitely prefer at least semi modular and bronze level or better efficiency. Any reputable brand will do. It's going to be an old school EP45-UD3P / 771 Xeon 5460 rig with a gtx 760. My kids don't play any new games really, it's going to be a youtube browser and roblox player. =] Looking for something $50 shipped or less. Thanks. I am also looking for a 256gb or better SSD. I'm gonna be at SATA II speeds so I don't need anything latest/greatest clearly. Something cheap, maybe 500gb at $40 or so.
